first make sure there are NO other gear sets with the same class that you are trying to link your portrait to. If there are multiple gear sets delete ALL of them and then remake your portrait. I think that would break portraits, so I'm not sure if there's an exception for wedding rings but you can go to the glamour dresser or armoire to place items for use in plates and save it to the ring slot of each glam.
